In the News: CTU officials meet privately with aldermen October 04, 2011 By: Cassandra West Chicago Teachers Union officials met with 25 aldermen in private briefings Monday to lay out the union's case on the longer day issue. Another eight aldermen sent representatives to the gatherings. At the briefings Monday, union officials also discussed issues like tax increment finance district reform, charter schools and merit pay, another thorny issue that will be raised when contract negotiations start soon. Six of those schools will start their new schedules Monday; the rest will adopt it in the next few weeks or at the beginning of the second semester. This week teachers and administrators at six of the schools are settling the final details of teaching schedules, pickup procedures and extra enrichment activities.
