In the News: Repeated failures by school reformers
A key quote from an essay on the failure of repeated school reform ideas acknowledges the "mostly wasted effort if the major cause of school problems stems from social conditions beyond the control of the schools." The essay, titled "Effects of Inequality and Poverty vs. Teachers and Schooling on America’s Youth," was just published in the Teachers College Record at Columbia University.
Classes will resume today in North Shore School District 112 after teachers and the school board reached a tentative contract agreement early this morning. (Tribune)
