In the News: CPS custodians may join striking teachers
A union representing some Chicago Public Schools custodians has given notice that its workers may soon stop crossing picket lines in solidarity with the Chicago Teachers Union, whose members are on strike.
Service Employees International Union Local 1 Tuesday informed companies that employ about 1,800 of its members as custodial workers in city schools that those workers might go out on strike with teachers in 48 hours, according to Jerry Morrison, assistant to the president of SEIU Local 1. (Tribune)
Mayor Rahm Emanuel continued to sell his message that the Chicago teachers strike was “avoidable” as picketing teachers provided the background noise to a news conference at a Marquette Park school. The mayor had to sneak into the building past a crush of red-shirted teachers at Tarkington School of Excellence. (Tribune)

Dear Chicago Police brothers and sisters--so sorry to see that
you choose to work the 4 hours a day rate--$21.00 per hour even with no children in the schools. You do know you were paid by the teachers not getting their 4% last year. Now you cross a stike line everyday. Sad.
police
they police have really been kind to the teachers at the stirkes...dont blame them...they have NO IDEA where their money comes from...no more than us
Yes they do--these are Off-duty Chgo police officers paid by CPS
not CPD, to stand in a school with no studnts for 4 hours each day. Our school has 5. The one down the street has 3. There are many more of these off-duty officers crossing the line. They should stand up and NOT cross the line.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Please be aware that our brothers and sisters in the Chicago Teachers Union
need our support. Please report to any member of any union who crosses the
picket line to your union stewards so that they may notify the officials at
the Hall.
Also let us know if you spot any non-union electricians crossing
the picket lines to work inside Chicago Public School facilities. We will
immediately notify the City of Chicago and the Department of Labor. It is
about contract violation, but more importantly, it is about keeping school
children safe by avoiding substandard work by untrained workers.
