Strike date: Sept. 10
Reporters camped outside at the Chicago Teachers Union's House of Delegates meeting have been told that the delegates have set a strike date of Sept. 10.
Union officials are expected to give more details at a press conference following the meeting. A notice of intent to strike was filed yesterday with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board. More to come.

strike
I hope it doesn't come to a strike. It would be bad to upset the beginning of school, for all involved. I believe the right thing will happen.
September 10th
I hope that both CTU & CPS reach an agreement and divert a strike, however, I find it interesting that Brizzard is setting the stage for a strike by "preparing" for alternatives for students. I feel that the preparation is a statement that he and his team is not planning to immediately compromise on a fair contract with CTU.
Are there any organizations out there to mobilize parents to put the pressure on CPS, CTU, and the Mayor! If so, Please Post!
The "Children First" posting on the CPS website:
They will cap teacher to supervisor ratio 1:25, something we, the teachers, don't have, nor will we get if CPS gets their contract.
(Word is they are trying to get it to 1:20!)
They will also try to choose facilities with air conditioning, which is needed for "babysitting", but not learning!
If only they put that much effort/thought into the students, teachers, and schools!
25 to 1
When i was a sub, I used to watch a group of seventh graders in a lunch rooom with no real activities to do. I guarantee jr high kids will be insane with a stranger. it isnt fair to give them to a volunteer, nor is it safe. i would really love to see rahm take a group of middle school kids and disquise himself a bit. he will see just how "sweet and eager" the school kids are!!!
A big mess
Other cities and states are not having the school problem that is in Chicago. Chicago ALWAYS has to be the role model for the U.S. But now Chicago has a bundle of problems. Tons of crime. Cps blaming teachers. Teachers forever strike down state; and are not bashed. Suburbs; and are not bashed. So seemingly Cps is saying teachers are babysitters. The children survived just fine during the summer. A few more days won't hurt. After all. There didn't have to be a longer day. Of course if you didn't have the money to pay the raises. But that doesn't seem like the truth. There is money. But there are too may different programs and activities going on at these schools. Another thing. The way tenured teachers were labeled an put out on the streets is ridiculous. That is the thanks they get for all they've done. The success will never come to those principals who cut tenured teachers jobs because they wanted them out of their schools; and to save them money. These people have very heavy hearts as to what has been done to them. It is nothing to smile about. The time span will see these principals mean endeavors dwindle. They will not prosper. The hiring of all these young TFA teachers is going to backfire one day. Scores won't be going up; they will be going down. Everyone knows. Experience is the best teacher. Are all the school's enrollment up? Are the buildings full?
one contingency school is to take in 3500 students even
though they are already very overcrowded with 1000. CPS-How just dumb!
