Marshall High and other turnaround high schools, in Chicago and nationally, face a thorny dilemma. Higher-performing students are being siphoned off through competition, driving down enrollment and raising tough policy questions about the future of these schools.

WBEZ Does This Week's Board Meeting
Coverage of the Board meeting by WBEZ's Linda Lutton.
"Today
we’re starting a new segment called “Cheat Sheet,” and it’s meant be a
quick and dirty peek into Chicago’s often contentious school board
meetings and the issues that are brought up there."
It's a welcome addition. I can't believe no one's done it before. I hope they keep it up.

I agree with that--but people need to get over the parking issue. they sound like suburbanites. I tried to post to the other blog but could not without giving an email address, which I refuse to do.

Well, the biggest issue is the timing. The meetings are scheduled so that it's very difficult for those with the most experience and expertise on classroom level education to attend.
Meetings should be scheduled so that students, teachers and parents can attend.

Thanks WBEZ for broadcasting this. I just do not understand why people feel they must DRIVE to the meetings. Central Office is centrally located and you can DRIVE to an el or bus stop and take public transportation downtown. Why should people have to DRIVE all the way up north or south to attend a meeting in an unfamiliar neighborhood? And those who do not DRIVE will have to figure out how to get there via the CTA. This is such a nonissue.
