Marshall High and other turnaround high schools, in Chicago and nationally, face a thorny dilemma. Higher-performing students are being siphoned off through competition, driving down enrollment and raising tough policy questions about the future of these schools.

Stimulus Trouble Brewing For IL
Oh, lovely.
First came news that
districts were being told to redo their stimulus reports to make it
look like as many jobs were saved as possible (State School News
Service PDF here).
Now Illinois has been IDd as one of four states who are "at risk" of having misused federal stimulus funding: 4 States Are Ripe for Stimulus Slip-Ups (EdWeek). The others include California, Michigan, and Texas. The
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico also made the list.

i love this report. shows the criminal intent of LEAs to defraud the public and harm children.
The situation reveals something of a sham. While a
premise of using ARRA money has been that it will
“create or retain†jobs in the school districts, in fact
it was used by the state to make payments already
committed to the districts under state law.
to qualify for the ARRA funds, the state needed
to assure the federal government that jobs indeed
had been created or retained.
funny how i have at least five documents that state i was released because of budget issues.
