Huberman You Are Responsible wrote 2 years 33 weeks ago

.

Mr. Huberman ever death is your responsibility. each program cut, each schedule change and every support service cut due to your budget cutting is directly responsible for youth having no hope and no support, especially when they know after three or four weeks of school students will loose their teachers they have come to trust.

Lies, that is all you are doing is lies. Students especially minority students know full well they are second class citizens in your plans.

You are complicit in ever death of a student by students.

Teachers and other staff members working to support our families are forced to live in the city but outside contractors raking in millions of chicago school dollars are out of towners.

what about hiring out of work chicago teachers and staff to run the program? another slap in the face.

something does not smell right.

Any organization working to end violence against youth in good faith deserves our support. However, Chicago presents unique Urban challenges that do not translate into other cities such as Baltimore.

I strongly agree with the Pastors who attended the board meeting that the money would be better served supporting the already effective youth programs such as After School Matters, Cease Fire, SouthWest Youth Collaborative, Umoja, etc. The list goes on and on. Moreover, some of the very best schools and programs for our youth most in danger of violence are fighting to stay afloat with the current budget. Any youth program that hopes to last must have sustainability. What happens when YAP leaves or runs out of 5 million dollars? The youth workers will leave. The investment in teh community is transitory and based on a specific population.

We have a systematic problem with violence that needs local, sustainable, and transparent youth organizations working with the young people and more importantly staying with those same young people to develop in them the capacity for future leadership of the anit-violence movement. Otherwise it's just like handing out food to the homeless. While the act in itself is good -- it does nothing to remedy the core issue of poverty.

We are paying 5 million for some sandwiches -- it will be good for awhile -- but soon -- it will all be eaten and the hunger will remain.
