Even as CPS opens more new schools, children with special needs have a tougher time finding options. Placements in private therapeutic schools are scarce, and some charters are reluctant to enroll them.

Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
It's getting closer to the time when schools first see their unofficial ISAT scores -- way before they are publicly announced or officially approved by the state.
When do you think the scores are first going to start trickling out? Are scores going to be up or down for your school (or the whole district) this year? Were there any changes in the tests or the format that would make the scores go up or down independent of student achievement?
Your ISAT-related predictions, hopes, rumors and gossip are all welcome. Just for fun, I predict that the scores are flat or even down, but not so much that Duncan or Daley have to do anything about it. No one loses their jobs. Except those at low performing schools, of course.

Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
Can anyone explain the SAT 10 scores to me? I have a 3rd grader whose math score was way below what I expected (I can live with the reading score but would have liked higher). Is this his percentile or will it change when the whole test is graded? One third of our 3rd graders have to go to summer school. Most did better in reading than math. Are other schools seeing these trends with their 3rd graders? Since my child doesn't have to attend summer school does that mean he meets the state standard? Please respond, especially 3rd grade parents or teachers (even a principals).

what is the SAT 10?
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
So promotion for the 3rd, 6th and 8th scores are based on the SAT 10. What is the SAT 10? Although parents won't have offical notification until the fall the school will have some idea of how the students scored. Is this just for 3rd, 6th and 8th (for summer school) or all of the students. I was told the prelimary scores, which usually don't vay from the official score and it is their choice on whether they share them verbally with the parents. A caring teacher (so I'm told) might also tell a prent the score, So what's the truth, does anyone know?
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
I just came from our school LSC meeting and the principal said they haven't received results yet. She thought they might even arrive by the end of the meeting, but as of 6pm she hadn't received them.
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
The scores that prrincipals were supposed to get today did not come. They are expected on Tuesday. These are only the SAT 10. It's amazing how ignorant some are to test scores. The scores for any other other grades will not be released until sometime late June. When principals get scores, we wait until we are told we can release the scores.

students are getting their scores. any schools have them? the board probably has them. just trying how to spin them
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
did you find out if the principal's have the preliminary ISAT scores? Will you be able to get a copy of them?
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
"...who knows how long it will take them to share with teachers if your child is not in 3rd, 6th or 8th grade."
Our boy's school administrator told us we'd see them in fall.
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
I bet that this new principal will stall giving out the results if the scores drop again. The sad thing is, most of the parents don't care enough to complain during LSC meetings or write to the higher ups downtown. I wish the catalyst would do a report on how these newly hired principals have faired. I heard that one area 14 principal has already been fired and more are on the way. I'm sure the scores will tell the story.
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
Alexander try to work you inside connections to get the results. I heard the results are available to principals this Friday (5/23/08) and who knows how long it wll take them to share with teachers if your child is not in 3rd, 6th or 8th grade. Even is the principal does share the scores with the teachers-no telling how long it would take to trickel to the parents. I'm dying to know if my child's top 50 neighborhood school will be ON or OFF the list since we have an new principal!!!!

What is the point????
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
Until people here understand the underlying statistical scam that's being played by so-called "standardized" tests, this thread will really be a hoot. Next things we'll hear, somebody will say (like JoAnn Roberts was doing eight years ago as "Intervention" chief) that you can bring scores "up" from the 20th to the 75th percentile in one year.
The deck's stacked, the game's rigged, and as long as people have faith in their oppressors, nothing's going to change. No matter what test is used, the "bottom" is staying the "bottom" (unless the kids are dumped, like was done at King High School years back). And as a result, whether under Arne or NCLB, the schools that serve the poorest children are a Free Fire Zone. Can be shut down for failure (excuse me, "underperformance") any time administration pleases.
So all the way down chain of command, the dirty work rolls on the heads of the classroom teachers in the roughest schools. AIO to principal -- all "data driven" of course -- to "coordinators" and suchlike.
Maybe this summer some people with a little time would like to join us in reading Berliner, Ohanian, Bracey, Rothstein, and some of the other people who've blown the whistle on this scam for the past ten years or more. Otherwise, this nonsense talk is aiding and abetting all of the teacher bashing that Daley wants to keep hot or hotter.
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
see if you can get them to leak the scores for the schools when the principals get them!!!
Waiting For ISAT -- Predicting The Results
at my top scoring elementary the scores will go down. We have a new principal :-(
We were previously ranked as one of the top 50 highest performing neighborhood schools by the Suntimes.
