Turning Around Marshall

Marshall High and other turnaround high schools, in Chicago and nationally, face a thorny dilemma. Higher-performing students are being siphoned off through competition, driving down enrollment and raising tough policy questions about the future of these schools.

Does he have prinicpals and assistant principals picked out for all his new schools.... if so can anyone help a parent find out that information. If I am going to send my child I would like to know who is in charge.

Welcome, Welcome -- Come On In

Just wanted everyone to know that the house bill previously HB464, regarding the removal of the teacher residency requirement, is alive again. It has been renamed HB4375. Let your representatives and congressman know if you are in favor of it. We need to catch it early on so that it doesn't die again!!!!!

Unite for the Children

February 4th marks the first of 17 hearings to be heard by CPS downtown office to determine the fate of 17 schools - closing or phased out. Lets get together - parents and children and March on that date not just for the 17 but for the 10 - 15 schools closed/phased out last year and the 10 -15 schools that will be close/plased out each year over the next 4 years. Contact the Press - take pictures to send to media if press does not come. We need to UNITE.

Welcome, Welcome -- Come On In

For what it's worth...I've spoken with a teacher from Edison. She informed me that Edison would indeed relocate to a low capacity facility in Albany Park. The regular school there would be phased out while the Gifted Center is slated to expand. I don't know how Beaubien's Gifted fits into any of this.

Rumor about Edison move

So the rumor mill has it that Edison Regional Gifted Center will be moving this fall. One story I heard was that they would take a school at Irving Park and the Kennedy. Another story has it that Beaubien's Gifted will go with them to a low capacity school in Albany Park. What gives? Any truth to either of these?
Thanks.

Welcome, Welcome -- Come On In

A few teachers failed to received the $50.00 card last year. I was one of those teachers. The Union issued a phone number to call and place your name on a list to received a belated $50. card.
I followed the Union instructions; surprise, surprise - absolutely nothing happened. As far as I know after the initial distribution, no teacher received the $50.
