dmarillo@voices4kids.org Facing History and Ourselves: Holocaust and Human Behavior Seminar
Join Facing History and Ourselves for a five-day seminar on the Holocaust and Human Behavior. Together we will explore the range of choices leading up to World War II and examine how hatred, indifference, and denial – as well as caring, compassion, and responsibility – shape communities past and present. Participants will come away with teaching strategies and resources that can be implemented in the classroom immediately, primary source documents, and activities that meet the Common Core State Standards. Educators will explore the complexities of human behavior, as well as how communities and families can reckon with mass violence and trauma and strive to build more just, stable communities. Past participants say Facing History’s professional development allows them to help students make connections to their own lives, understanding through their study of history that our past is not inevitable but the result of the choices, large and small, leaders and everyday citizens have made over time.
All seminar participants receive complete, free access to Facing History’s educator resources, including downloadable unit plans, lessons, and online tools. In addition, participants are invited to borrow videos, DVDs, and books from Facing History’s lending library. Each participant is assigned a Facing History program associate, who is available to provide ongoing support services.
Scholarships are available for Chicago Public Schools teachers. There is a $50 registration fee.
