Counting Down The Days -- What's Left? The calendar is careening towards the last day of school -- Friday June 13th if I read the CPS calendar right.  I don't think they're using emergency days this year.

CPS has already put out the new calendar for next year (08-09), which you can check out.  Summer ends on September 2nd for those of you who will be sticking with us next year.

So, what are you trying to do (or avoid doing, or avoid happening) during this last little leftover of the year?  I mean, once you get back from Memorial Day weekend.  Concerns? Leftover projects?  Big decisions?

Mon May 19, 2008 at 5:20 PMBy: YIKES Counting Down The Days -- What's Left? I teach until final exams. I plan to cover acid-base reactions, thermodynamics and oxidation-reduction. I have 5 labs planned and three major exams before finals. A two day final exam prep and we're off and running. We don't wind down or the kids will. Seniors have been on hiatus since spring break and their grades show it. Many offers of admissions have been rescinded.
Mon May 19, 2008 at 10:47 PMBy: Finals Week Counting Down The Days -- What's Left? I think that it is really unfair that the students need to follow a full day schedule during the week of finals due to IMPACT. Every suburban school has half-days during the week of finals so that the students have time to study for the tests. How unfortunate for CPS students!
Tue May 20, 2008 at 7:45 AMBy: Bridgeport Teacher Counting Down The Days -- What's Left? Well, given that grades for 3, 6, and 8th grade students need to be entered into Impact between the May 21 (TOMORROW!!!!) and May 28, I will spend the entire last week and a half of school lying to my 8th graders about how important the work will be for them if they plan on graduating.
Tue May 20, 2008 at 8:37 AMBy: Ser Counting Down The Days -- What's Left? Already gave my seniors their finals which doubled as a test for the juniors I have in my Art 1 class. Finishing up a unit on body art/tattoos and then watching a movie...and then more movies. And a few assignments here and there for the juniors.
Wed May 21, 2008 at 1:23 PMBy: cklaus Counting Down The Days -- What's Left? I think only Reading and Math grades due for 8th tomorrow. For Science, mine are working in groups building model bridges to prepare for a strength contest - tournament style. Actually I'm designing and building one of my own after work b/c it sort of soothes the resonance of my almost constant acerbic comments during the post-lunch day. I'm playing the 7th graders a book on tape (definitely won't work with some sections)

Tue May 27, 2008 at 6:31 PMBy: teacher mom teacher Counting Down The Days -- What's Left? Trying to get through just like everyone else! The challenge is for the adults to get along so that the students will benefit. I have worked my backside off particularly this year as both a mother and educator. Proud of it.
