Thu May 8, 2008 at 2:01 PMBy: Keith Thompson Golden Apple Press Conference Comments The author asked "Know anyone on the list? Me, neither". You should! You may have guessed, but Brooke Thompson is my wife. I was present at the event. Mayor Daley was asked by a reporter how we can take the enthusiasm seen in Mrs Thompson and the staff and students of Peirce School of International Studies and instill it in other schools. I waited patiently while the mayor provided his reply, after which I raised my hand (I could see the horror in my wife's face). Fortunately for everyone, they would not hear me. I later told Arnie Duncan and the reporter who had asked the question that I thought he had asked the wrong person. The correct person was standing beside the mayor - Mrs Thompson. Much to my disbelief, I continued with something like "and if you want to fix the schools, you need to talk to Mrs Thompson and other Golden Apple Winners and other National Board for Professional Teaching Standard achievers. And you have to listen."
