Sat Apr 19, 2008 at 4:07 PMBy: Alexander start a thread about this: Friday Morning [Earthquake!] News Security in Elementary Schools:
I am just finding out that (I think) the Board provides each school with one security guard. If schools want more than one guard they can either A) use money from their tight budgets to hire another OR B) use money from their budgets for a part-time Chicago Police Department officer (which I'm told is cheaper than the CPS guard). If the CPS security guard calls in sick then either a school won't have a guard for that day or perhaps a part time CPD office for part of the day. That is just crazy! When teachers call in sick a school can get a sub, but you mean to tell me that there are no subs for the guards!!!
Sun Apr 20, 2008 at 7:46 PMBy: Kat Friday Morning [Earthquake!] News Are you just starting to realize how bad security is now? Any determined creep who wanted to could cause havoc at any elementary school. We've apparently forgotten about the poor derranged soul who shot and killed a police officer at Montefiore a number of years ago. Yet our board has lots of money for consultants.
Sun Apr 20, 2008 at 8:09 PMBy: tons of money for consultants Friday Morning [Earthquake!] News There are two tons of money for consultants but CPS pays them in a most haphazard way; up to two months behind. But they don't have to provide them with any benefits.
Mon Apr 21, 2008 at 2:04 PMBy: security guard training Friday Morning [Earthquake!] News check out what training CPS requires of a Chicago cop who wants to moonlight as an elementary school security guard. not sure if that will keep your kids safe
