LSC Elections To Watch We won't know the final tally until tomorrow, but it looks like there are going to be enough candidates running for LSCs by the time the deadline arrives (at 3 today).  As of last night, CPS LSCs guy Jose Alvarez said that they were down to 25 schools lacking enough candidates to make for a quorum.  And clearly the big push last week from LSC advocates like PURE and DFC made a big difference, despite the lack of funding and the holiday week.

I did a segment on WBEZ this AM where they asked me for some LSC elections to watch out for.  You may know others, but I picked out some obvious ones -- Ravenswood and Juarez and Curie (where it's still not clear whether Tom Ramos is going to run again or not) -- and some less obvious ones (like Inter-American, which has almost 20 parents already signed up to run as of the weekend) and Edison (15 parents as of last week).  As of Thursday, at least, there were also some surprises -- only 5 parents signed up at Northside College Prep, and 6 at Walter Payton.  That could change soon, as clerks enter names and folks get back up and running.  Thanks to everyone who helped get me up to speed.

Other tidbits:  roughly 25 percent of LSC membership stays the same between elections, and roughly 80 percent of LSC membership stays the same during the two-year terms, according to CPS.

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 1:04 PMBy: Kristin LSC Elections To Watch Anyone concerned that the extension for nominations was granted to all schools, all categories regardless of whether they had candidates to fill the positions? It seems like a poor way to run an election to me.
Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 9:30 PMBy: Russo on Curie LSC Elections To Watch Why are you pinpointing Tom Ramos if he is running again at Curie. What about the other LSC's at Curie, like Otis Davis who called the LSC members at Curie the Hispanics (Terrorists). Is this pastor Davis, a friend of Rev. Wright and they both have something in common?

Remember Ramos was only one vote on the former principal's contract. The other LSC's I believe are adult enough to make their own decisions. If he doesn't run, good, why waste time at that school that is on "Corrective Action". What a shame. Don't blame him.
Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 11:28 PMBy: Washington HS LSC Elections To Watch Sounds like--at least from the blog Washington HS looks like the LSC election to watch!
Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 4:45 PMBy: Scared of Ramos LSC Elections To Watch Seems like the media and Curie are nervous of Ramos running again at Curie. Why? Is he too smart to understand school policy and rules for parents. This goes to show that no one wants smart and intelligent parents and community to run at schools.
Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 9:46 PMBy: Give Ramos a job at CPS LSC Elections To Watch Wow, Alexander; Can you think of anyone else to think of who is running again or not for the LSC who is known besides Ramos?

Well it seems Tom Ramos the Curie LSC gets the crown. The Board should offer him a job since he knows about LSC's and Parental Involvement. That would be a start in the right direction, instead of putting nothing but hacks at 125 with no experience.
Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 9:57 AMBy: Marsha LSC Elections To Watch Tom Ramos does know about LSC's ,but he knows even more when he has Abuzio Zarafatso giving him the inside scoop of what the Board of Ed is planning. The BOA should check their employees phone /computer records to see just how much time is spent with people that seem to like causing trouble. We praise the lord that Tom Ramos is not running at my son's school. Maybe now we can get to some serious work!
Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 1:33 PMBy: Passtor Davis LSC Elections To Watch This is Otis Davis, Pastor and friend of Rev. Wright writing on this blog signing the name Marshall. You praise the lord that Ramos is not running, because now you can go back and do the same business as usual at Curie High School. Davis talks about Ramos. Don't know who this person from the board is but everyone knows that Davis a LSC parent rep, don't know if that is really his kid or he illegally adopted from his homeless shelter, but his buddy at the board is Rev. Michael Brand, from LSC Relations and the law dept. Their ya go!! Business as usual because I wouldn't blame Ramos in getting involved with the mess that Davis and his LSC members have created (Jones supporters). Also by Davis supporting to vote for 2 LSC members illegally when the Cook County State's Attorney is investigating.
