CPS Announcements - LSC Elections, Washington Bio CPS Encourages Chicagoans to Run for Their Local School Council
Deadline for LSC Applications Approaching, Elections Set for April 16 and 17

WHAT: Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan urges Chicagoans to sign up to be Local School Council candidates in the upcoming elections in April.

WHEN: Thursday, Feb. 21 3 p.m. WHERE: O’Toole Elementary School 6550 S. Seeley Ave. Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan encourages the public to become a part of their Local School Council and submit candidate applications in March for the upcoming LSC elections, which will be held at CPS high schools on Wednesday, April 16, and at CPS elementary schools on Thursday, April 17. The LSC inauguration is June 26. The district also will unveil the locations of 35 new Community Schools, or existing Chicago public school buildings that will become community centers in the hours before and after school.

WHAT: New Harold Washington biography debuts at all CPS schools WHEN: Thurs., Feb. 21 1 p.m.

WHERE: DuSable high school campus library 4934 S. Wabash Board President Rufus Williams will accept a donation of 679 copies of the new Harold Washington biography from Comcast. The book is titled “Harold! Photographs From the Harold Washington Years,” (Northwestern University Press). The donation is part of the CPS celebrations of Black History Month, and coincides with the Harold Washington Commemorative Year, marking the 25th anniversary of Washington’s first mayoral election win, April 1983, and the 20th anniversary of his death, November 1987.
