Tall Principals Turn Around Schools I still haven't read through the recent article about turnarounds (Chicago looks to 'turnarounds' to lift failing schools) from the Christian Science Monitor, but I have noticed that the new guy at Harvard -- "Andre Cowling, the tall, imposing new principal" -- reminds me, in terms of general size and age, of the new principal at Sherman. It of course could be coincidence, or perhaps I'm just too focused on race and age, but is there a trend towards tall young black principals, if only at AUSL schools?
If Jarvis Sanford, Dodge's principal, is tall, perhaps AUSL does have three.
AUSL does have a trend toward tall male principals: Tarkington principal Vincent Iturralde is pretty tall, if memory serves.
The height thing is nothing new; yet another business stereotype injected into the academic community by Arne and his B-school boys.. I'm sure they don't even know why the tall guys just 'seem so right' for the job.
A measure of how miserable this trend is is that I'm grateful they at least broke out of the old white guy as principal mentality, although your Ravenswood thread clearly indicates they're trying to grow themselves another crop and not liking it when the community rebels against the Master Plan from the Master Race.
AUSL, to its credit, is trying to grow a different crop of principals, I think with some success.
i've never met the tarkington guy, but here's a pic of him back when he was a classroom teacher i think: here
can't tell if he's tall or not.
Are you ever going to be satisfied? The fact that you are considering some sort of conspiracy because two people happen to be tall is absolutely crazy.
Also, it is a little bit insulting you are claiming a resemblance. I guess it wasn't safe to say you saw a connection because they were black men.
I saw they were both driving Hondas. This is the real conspiracy. It an attempt to overthrow the American unions!
For all you Orr teachers, maybe 3 or 4 of you have a chance at remaining on the job, but be assured AUSL will bring in their people for the most part. They have the right attitudes, qualifications, blah blah blah. In other words, no experience, little expertise, lots of tears, and another generation of children to be experimented on.
Having said that, what the hell is going on at the Office of High School Programs? It's extremely white down there these days. Is David Gilligan really the new "Head"? Michael Lach in charge of instruction? And who the heck in Arlana Bedard? Where did you go Don Pittman? I never thought I'd miss you.
Glad to see you've dropped in to spend a few. By the way, he is the principal at Sherman. I have heard great things about the work Mr. Allen is trying to do in affecting a positive change in the hearts and minds of the students and the community.
I also know of the Harvard principal. He is a caring man, who runs a fairly tight ship.
Tall and imposing principals preferrably male - exactly what the students need!
