Still Fighting To "Keep Lincoln Park Public" "We need your help now to stop the Park District in its tracks. Community leaders will be on hand at this meeting to share information about this unfortunate situation, to call on officials to put a stop to the project, and to hear from the former head of the New York Civil Liberties Union with his news on an identical agreement in Manhattan that was just voided by a court. In attendance will be public school parents, neighbors, pet owners, park enthusiasts, even appalled alumni of Latin School."

Sincerely, Coleen, Herb, Eury, Sam, Lita, Ginny, John, Tom, Patricia, Peter And others with the Committee to Keep Lincoln Park Public . cklpp.org.  There's a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Lincoln Park Library.  1150 W. Fullerton Ave.

Apparently a group of folks in New York City were able to stave off what is threatening to happen in across from Latin School in Lincoln Park.

Sat Feb 16, 2008 at 12:47 PMBy: Wendy Still Fighting To "Keep Lincoln Park Public" I'm sorry, I must be in the minority, but I really don't see what the big deal is here. The CPD does not have the funds to renovate the park for the new field. Latin has no outdoor space. As I understand it, Latin's exclusivity is not in perpetuity but rather for a period of 10? years or so.

This sounds like just the thing I would normally be appalled about, and yet I'm not.

If the land were already in high demand (it's not, right? it's just an empty field that gets no organized use now, right?) ... then I could see the outrage. But I really just don't get it. Maybe instead of exclusive use, they could get first pick, but still allow it to be used potentially by other groups.
