Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 10:58 AMBy: boundary changes Wednesday Morning News Missing from the board report on boundary changes is any indication of the significance educationally for students. Banneker and Mays will begin to enroll students who would have attended Kershaw. Kershaw will begin to take students citywide beginning in 2008-2009. Students currently attending each school will not be affected - not have to move.

The Board fails to include any information in the report about how the changes will benefit students educationally. What are the changes being made to Kershaw that warrant a change from a neighborhood to a citywide school? It may be a good move but there's no information in the Board report that informs the public.

Additionally, how does CPS publicize these hearings on boundary changes? Why doesn't CPS post notice of public hearings on the front page of its website? Did the LSC of each school approve the boundary changes? Did the LSC at Kershaw approve the change to a citywide school?
