Fri Jan 18, 2008 at 6:03 PMBy: George N. Schmidt Friday Morning News The story on the Englewood High School basketball team is very good, but why is it sitting (on my browser at least) next to a photograph of John Ostenburg, who works at the Chicago Teachers Union? Ostenburg was recently appointed Chief of Staff by Marilyn Stewart after years of running the CTU newspaper (which to my knowledge never covered Prep Spots like the Englewood basketball team).

If I were blogging anonymously or pseudonymously, I'd make this post from "Confused. No, very confused..."
Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 10:45 AMBy: cermak_rd Friday Morning News That's so sad about Uriostegui. Sure he may not have been the best student with Bs and Cs, but not the worst either. He seemed to have a good heart, wanting to earn money to help out Mom and doing odd jobs even before 16 to help out. Why would the gangs target someone like that?
Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 1:06 PMBy: stupid headline Friday Morning News It's a classic misleading headline. In the body of the story the police acknowledge they don't know why the kid was shot and that it could have been a case of mistaken identity.
Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 1:38 PMBy: Nice Picture - John Ostenburg Friday Morning News Great picture of the John Ostenburg the double dipping Chief of Staff of the Union and Mayor of Park Forest.

PS Is this legal?

Patrick Fitzgerald where are you?
Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 1:42 PMBy: it may not be seemly Friday Morning News ostenburg working two jobs may not be seemly, but it doesn't raise any questions at CTU HQ from what i've been told. he's been working for CTU for a while, right? it's just the title (and perhaps the salary) that have changed.

For the record, my position as Mayor of Park Forest is strictly policy-making and not administrative. I receive roughtly $6,500 per year to perform that role and also to serve as liquor commissioner. Park Forest has a full-time Manager who is hired to run the day-to-day affairs. This is a common arrangement in most suburban communities. As regards my full-time position at the Chicago Teachers Union, I have served under three administrations -- at different times as editor, legislative director, officer liaison, and now chief of staff -- and will stand by my performance thoughout as justification for the salary I receive, which is exactly on the same scale as for other Union administrators. Thanks.
