What To Do With $38M In Violence Prevention Funding Ignoring the obvious self-interest involved, who do you think should be getting money to implement Huberman's violence prevention program -- familiar folks like the ministers and CeaseFire or unfamiliar out of town folks like YAP with their magic out of town powers?

Saying that Chicago schools chief Ron Huberman had "purposely disrespected" them, a group of Englewood neighborhood pastors said this morning they will protest the award of a $38 million contract by CPS to combat youth violence.

Tio Hardiman, director of the anti-violence group Cease Fire Illinois, says the pick is a slap in the face to groups with Chicago roots.
And, was it a smart or dumb move of Huberman not to have cut off a slice of the funding for folks who he had to know would make a stink? He wouldn't have been the first to have paid off community folks and organizations. Vallas used to give money to local universities to quiet their complaints about his programs, and Duncan for a while gave training money to community groups while he was busy undercutting LSCs.
Me, I'm wondering why CPS still hasn't released the list of 38 schools that are most at risk, the methods used as part of Huberman's fancy-schmancy analysis (what if he did it on the back of an envelope?), or -- most important -- the much-mentioned list of 200 students who are most likely to die this year.
I mean, seriously. Who are these guys? Name them. Then hire bodyguards for each. Send them to Club Med if things get particularly hot. Problem solved. Send the leftover millions to my PO address. Or, want us to take your plan seriously, release the details.

That is what it is and I bet it is on the back of an envelope.
He is spending so much time on data data data that really is not telling us anything--that he is letting all the pots on the stove boil over/ Then there is only 1/2 the pot left or the fire.
START running the schools RON instead of ruining them!
Get you BIG administrators, like those from T&L OUT tthe schools and helping them. It is so easy to tell eveyone what to do--it is another thing, a higher thing, a better thing to just DO IT!

Maybe, just maybe, Ronnie's showing an independent mind. The Boss would have just funneled $$$ to the usual suspects who will support his BS. Cease Fire? Gimme an f-ing break. Full of "reformed" gangbangers trying to "make a difference." Maybe Alex Kotlewitz and the NY Times think you're cool, but those of us who deal with you on a regular basis think differently.
The Reverends...whatever. If they cared so much, why hasn't the violence stopped? Disrespect? Please...you're disrespecting your neighbor. If either group wanted the 'bangers to stop shooting it would have happened already. Do unto others and all that....

Anyone else hear about the shooting outside of Fenger this morning? A teacher there says a student was arrested. Could they be keeping it hush hush because of the turnaround? If it happened outside a not-yet-turned around school you bet it would be all over the news.

CPS is keeping it hush hush--related to what has been happening with the turnaround there. Former (young) male principal had a postive relationship with the students there. But dumb Frynd, who first said he would keep him, quietly removed him and sent him to close best practice. Frymd is in way over his head. Frynd is trying to get rid of the 'dead weight' students and transfer them to Morgan Park. But MPHS will have none of that! He got out the riffraff at Harper, but cannot do it at Fenger, so he does not know what to do with the students who are less than productive for his tastes and will not increase the test scores. shame on him.
