Fri Jul 3, 2009 at 12:40 PMBy: good editorial, but Friday Morning News "CPS compares charter schools to comparable neighborhood schools. Charters almost always do better. But CPS methodology... failure to account for that bias significantly weakens the credibility of the results..."
SUNTIMES forgot that the charters kick-out the students that are undesireable to their 'vision' and send them to the neighborhood school. THEY also SELECT who get in--yes they do. So this editorial is a start, but they missed key ingredients. The 1 sentence 'his-bad' on Arne was good though, but they do not DARE mention daley ceasar.
Fri Jul 3, 2009 at 12:45 PMBy: Prosser's hidden positions Friday Morning News I work at Prosser Career Academy HS and (6) 'hard-working' support staff members (and in need of their jobs to support their families) were cut while the principal's (2) pals kept their positions. One of the principal's pals works in the toolroom and already gets a pension from CPS and retired in June, 2006. But, rehired in new position in Sept, 2006 as toolroom attendant.
The toolroom attendant, he lives in Burbank. So, he's breaking the CPS residency policy since he retired and was re-hired at a new position and must live within the city since he's a new-hire.
Another one of the principal's pals, but not a retired teacher) is a Student Advocate and Admissions Representative and doesn't have a college degree. And, he's the boys basketball coach without an 'up-to-date' IHSA coaching certificate and his teams have gotten progressively worst in team record, student grades, and student behavior.
Fri Jul 3, 2009 at 12:52 PMBy: BOND untruthful-wake up reporters! Friday Morning News "Bond said no one named to existing positions received a pay raise." Ronnie's new team ALL GOT PAY rasies. They all went to higher salaries from where they were when they came in--coming at the TOP of the CPS pay scale, rather than starting at least at mid-tier--so many lies Monique, you are good at it since no one checks you out! How reporters just believe what she says. I even realize that I should ask for their PUBLIC salaries before they came to CPS to see their big raises! Ronnie is rewarding them well for thier work outside of CPS and it will hurt the classroom. He could have at least stood tall and refused any higher slaries for his people, but he does not have that thought or vision. Shame and sham!
Fri Jul 3, 2009 at 1:33 PMBy: retiree subs Friday Morning News Retired teachers can be rehired as subs and receive sub pay. Subs, new or old do not have to live in the city. Retirees who have certificates in a shortage area such as counseling can be rehired and work 5 days out of 10. They are paid about $215.00 a day because it is a shortage area, no one wants to work 5 days out of 10 without any benefits and the state does reimburse CPS for some special education positions. This is in the contract on page 108-they are not to supplant any appointed teacher.
Fri Jul 3, 2009 at 2:31 PMBy: Jim Friday Morning News Marilyn Stewart doesn't know what she's talking about:
"Marilyn Stewart, president of the Chicago Teachers Union, praised the cuts as an effort to "chop the top" — meaning staff at district headquarters — rather than lay off teachers who work directly with students."

They cut the middle Marilyn, not the top. The top is running just fine and collecting hefty paychecks at that!
Fri Jul 3, 2009 at 2:40 PMBy: Jane Kowalski Friday Morning News What's happening to the Comings & Goings, it has not been updated since April 09....common you know whose come and gone since then..right!!!
Fri Jul 3, 2009 at 8:11 PMBy: yellowdart Friday Morning News I am surprised that there hasn't been more talk of what happened at Central Office on Wednesday with all the cuts. Admittedly even those of us who work there don't know the details of what departments and people were cut, but that's why I come to the blog, because people who know more than me dish on it here! Since the new administration took over there have been so few details on the reorg that I'm a bit scared - not that people are afraid to say what's happening, but that the administration is so uncertain about what they're going to do that there's really nothing to talk about because nothing's been decided.
Sat Jul 4, 2009 at 9:07 AMBy: tired of chaos Friday Morning News Alexander, please start a thread about the payroll issue that is developing. Teachers' checks are short by hundreds of dollars and payroll's response is that it is a new "formula" for calculating deferred pay. Something doesn't add up...
Sat Jul 4, 2009 at 9:55 AMBy: to yellodart and chaos Friday Morning News "...but that the administration is so uncertain about what they're going to do that there's really nothing to talk about because nothing's been decided."
You are right yellowdart--Ronnie is in way over his head. School starts for many 8/3 and there is no plan and Ronnies plan will be wrong because there will be many sink holes he will not know of or be able to anticipate. Arne 'studied' under Vallas for a few years, Ronnie and his merry men will be daley's biggest mistake.
Chaos--sorry about your paycheck, but why start a string---is there even a payroll office anymore? All voice mails are FULL.
Sat Jul 4, 2009 at 10:05 AMBy: dont be fooled Friday Morning News for all the cuts that are being made, there are new positions opening. smoke and mirrors. bread and circuses.
