There have been too many times where the teacher rep got angry with the principal, when the princpipal tried to get them to do some work, and then the teacher rep works with the LSC to get the principal. The principal is just trying to get the teacher to do the job they are paid for. Then, we have an LSC parent who is angry at the principals for NOT making a teacher change a correct grade. So now the LSC parent has stated that she is going to get the principal. Some business model. Gee, would Daley put up with a local mayor council?!

Every job in CPS that involves daily contact with children and their fates (educationally; other) is one of the highest stress jobs in the world. Teacher. Principal. Bus Driver. Someone might take the time to figure out why Chicago public school "in the trenches" jobs are so stressful, than discuss accountability. People don't just "pass away" under conditions of stress. And I doubt one school's LSC is the prime stress factor in the lives of most teachers and principals at this point in Chicago history.

But for that, too, it would be interesting to have more facts.

I am surprised and very upset to find out of her passing. She loved and cared about her students, staff and school. She worked harder than most I have known...

i will save any thoughts or comments i have about the LSC for another time, but would like to share that i don't, and have not ever understood how a local school council has the authority to not renew a principal's contract---there should be more channels in order to be fair and support all parties: students, parents, staff, and administrators.

I am extremely sad about Dr. Buckley's death, it is upsetting that this has become a divided crowd---i would HOPE love and support will shine through in support of the Dewey Family---the students and adults working there everyday! I feel very lucky to have known and worked with such an amazing woman-Dr. Buckley-having known her makes me smile:)

ps. I just nominated her for an Outstanding principal's award in supporting the fine arts.

The school was one of the highest scoring in the area. The students were well behaved, the building was beautiful and most importantly, she expected a lot from her teachers as well as the students. She worked so hard at trying to give her students the best education possible.
I'm not trying to get political but the LSC WAS causing her unwarranted stress. Some people just love to be in power of something-anything. I like how one person commented above about how some of these LSC members make one small issue thier life's purpose. I really think that we need to rethink the role of LSCs. I'm not saying to get rid of them but we REALLY need to change thier role.

Dewey was her family and she treated all of us as her family. She was a woman of excellence and grace, and like the lady she was, she departed this life with a gracious exit. In my heart I believe that she completed her work here. I don't want to think of her death as untimely, because I believe that her work down here was done. She left a legacy for the next person to carry on the vision of "together we can!" I know the Heavenly Father was pleased and decided that she'd had enough. He beckoned for her and she answered.

My sister held herself to a higher standard, and always loved the progress that her students showed in their work, as well as their personal lives. I am still in shock, as I had just seen her on the Tuesday before. I know that she would want her students to continue to strive for knowledge and wisdom to better themselves, and I know that Dewey will be able to come together, and continue to move forward toward those goals. It is important for everyone to keep focusing on the students, their desire to achieve, and the methods that my sister was able to motivate them with. I know she held them to a higher standard, and used tough love to let them know that she cared about them, and expected them to progress in their studies and everyday lives. This is about the students, and she would want the focus to remain on them. As I understand it, she was able to get Dewey off of probation with her hard work, dedication, and direction. Please do not lose that focus.

The dangling staff who are being paid 100,000 and walking the halls marked as teachers, those without credentials for their current positions being covered, again walking as teachers, the special education coordinator who has not done the job and still isn't doing it, the parents walking around trying to run the school, hanging in the office with confidential info harrassing staff. He wanted to get a copycat check through Least Restrictive Enviroment; the reason he's exploriting them. Since he held the chair; he bragged that he would not renew her contract. He would portray her as bad. the Principal was voted in; and he always dug for fault in all directions to win the check. (Telling friend members not to show up to vote). It wasn't because the Principal had not aspired; that's why she became stressed out. It was because he held the gavel and she had to be portrayed as bad , so he could get paid. Not anyone could understand why he just wouldn't release the noose. He let be understood that He ruled now. ( I want to get paid)! He shouldn't be the Council Chair person and have his friends sewing the Council up. He was off from work with a hurt let, but he was around school every day bragging with a brief case hung over his shoulder. The saddest thing is that a lady had to pay with her life because of so mean a demeanor. My prayers go to him; but he himself Knows now he is wrong. He needs to be replaced, because everyone shared the continuous stress with this sad, sad,situation. He must remember. The Lord will make your enemy; Your FootStool. Sadly, I just learned of the tragedy the day after her funeral services. CPS really needs to have better communication. Every staff members' life deserves to be acknowledged.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Buckley at Edward Hartigan Specialty School where she served as my Assistant Principal. There was never a more kind person, leader, counselor, and a true agent for change. I wish I learned of the news sooner, so that I could pay tribute to this wonderful woman.

It really doesn't matter how Dr. Buckley died, it's that she passed away so unexpectedly. So many people, like myself, were greatly impacted by her presence and leadership. It was a honor to have her as an administrator during my first 2 years of teaching. She always imparted an encouraging word into my life and gave me suggestions that only improved me as an educator. Dr. Buckley was the epitome of grace and professionalism, and the children and staff loved and respected her. I don't remember Dr. Buckley ever raising her voice, but when she spoke EVERYONE listened.

She possessed such power. Such conviction. We are all better people because of knowing her.

My sincere prayers go out to the Dewey staff and the Buckley family. I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. Buckley will be deeply missed.

I think what's really sad is that they allow thier issues to lay on the family. I beleive the truth will and is coming out about this school, Dewey needs some serious help. After all they have been personally deprived. The focus Should be on them and not on all the other vast stuff that is not any of his business. Again; it's still about getting paid. And that's all. If it's so much for the kids then this love should be spread out for children on the weekends. Because God relieved her from all of this pressure (A debt we all will pay); but she does not have to suffer anymore. The heat was there; and it finalized THEN. That strength again; was the core. She never realized how well she had done. You say for the children. Guess what; the children loved her too. It was one big family that struggled to give the Education Department what they wanted; and that's what they as a whole did. Improvement was there. (especially if it's two meetings, come to one, miss one, come to two, etc.) The rules only cover someone who misses three or more meetings in a row. It's hard to do business when you can't get a quorum.

You and how ever many others that was running around the building saying don't go to the meeting, we're boycotting the meeting. He explained to us he didn't need a quorum to discuss the items on the agenda. So for some of those that's on the council, BJ, and some teachers You allowed Mr.Johnson to have his meeting with out any interruptions or negativity. BJ I can't believe you got your GOOFY but up at 6:00am this morning with Mr. Johnson on your little mine. So with out the quorum he was able to get the information out to every one that was in attendance. I believe we all departed knowing Dewey school SipAAA isn't being implemented correctly. And the budget sure is hell don't support it. So for those thats running around screaming boycott, they should me some where trying to help get it fixed. Mr. Johnson stated he was not voting on any more last minute budgets. So if the Teachers, Parents and community didn't enough time to view it, he will be reporting it to the state. BJ you need to get up at 6:00 am and help Dewey fix the SipAAA so would match the budget. Something else we found out at that meeting was the acting principal Mrs. Hasbrouck didn't have a clue as to who did the budget before she became principal. And was affraid to say she had very little input in the preparing of it now. But she did say the school LLT is helping. Should she be in a class room helping our children. Mr. Johnson said one thing at the end of that meeting that gave me hope, " I'm not going no where, I was raised in this community and I'm going to stay in this community. Just wait until the next LSC election, your going to think Obama was running". He said he wasn't voting on the Amendment or roll over money if its not corrected. It sounds like Mr. Johnson is there to stay. Good luck Mr. Johnson

All schools and people and schools make mistakes. Sometimes things are not always understood how to have been done. But you learn from your mistakes. It takes time to correct problems. Rules of education change so fast; and then sometimes those changes do not align with the changing sosciety or the knowledge required for children to portray. Sometimes its just hard to keep up. It takes time. All of us have the love of the children at heart; but there are so many cities and so many problems that children are facing today; and then laws expect you to fix the problem and don't give you the money to fix the problems; so schools have to run around like chickens with their heads cut off to try give services to children that have problems. Problems that stem from abroad. Problems that are brought to school. Supplies cut. Then money for this; have to be used for that; and vice versus. It's a big mess. You know this too. Now fighting amongst ourselves does not solve the problems. Problems will always be. This is just how life is. It's sad. XFactor; we should pray to start a fruitful year at your school; that the children put more in to help themselves; and parents help them more at home so they don't have to be labeled. Because special services will effect them in a long run; because as someone grows up; they don't want to be labeled as having a problem. Getting a check for having a problem is not just some type of fad. I wish all children were perfect; but that is not the case. All grown ups are not perfect, either. So XFactor; let's just pray that the Lord will bless all of us the few days that are promised to All of us. When We leave this world; we can't take Anything with us. They researched information on the cycle chairs and grade level chairs. The union stated that those positions should have been voted on as well. Seems like same old bull at Dewey, so you know Mr. Johnson is calling all of the Teachers that he has numbers. That is to makes sure his presentation on thursday is facts and not false. The only difference in thursday meeting is he will have a lot of his people there to help the public understand that the school is breaking laws that is hurting staff and the children. Get ready for some fire works about those made up cycle chairs, that weren't voted on, and had no input from the staff in how they were hand picked to just say yes.

Funds and school still on probation (program cut now), Counselor in position with no qualification (resigned), Case Manager/LSC member not doing his/her job (open position). And as for the meeting wed., Mr. Johnson stated it's always a successful meeting when you have Parents, community and staff working together. He didn't need all the members to go over his plan. Read your purple union book goofy A??, Mr. johnson been reading that to Goofy. His sister isn't going any where. Dewey has two buildings but one oracle, his sister along with the other two assistants would bump some one else snake that plan didn't work. He talked to his sister in explain to her what you snakes may do, he's a step a head of you goofy A??. And if you think things aren't working, well where is America's Choice and the Dumb A?? Who's letting him get by with this lie?Maybe the government needs to watch him play disabled. And talk about Special Ed money; what about when Mr. Blanton and Rosetta and D.D.flew out on special trips to California and New York. Rented cars. Rosetta took her children on these trips with the NCLB money. They really were living large. It's not tit for tat. It's about trying to have a school environment like all schools in the United States. Let the Staff push those children where they need to go out into the world to be successful. Goofy X-Factor. The AIO is an Administrator. This is why they were shifted around downtown. The AIO is way pass a classroom. Do you realize that They work downtown. They are over the schools. Not in the schools. Not on the Local School Council's level. As far as Teacher's Aides. Most schools phased them out many years ago at other schools. Dr. Buckley just kept them and tried to make sure they had a job. Out of the kindness of her heart. But she Didn't have to keep them. Money is tight; and again Mr. Johnson is trying to stretch the money as a personal kind to his sister who is a teacher's aide at that school. All this mess has caused so many problems there. It Will go down in history that he needs to go sit down and take Rosetta Burton and Delores Jones with him. After all; again; Delores is lying in the cut to be the next Principal. And you talk about crooked; and sneaky. Well; I know you Really can't trust her; because her hands has already been in the school's cookie jar; years back. She is unkind; and very demeaning and unfair. VERY sneaky!VERY! Please reject that one. Mr. Johnson is just waiting for that moment to sit her in there. See; everything is be runned; and taken over by he and his crew. He figures that since he is from the neighborhood; that he and D.D;Rosetta; and Mr. Blanton; along with friendly Delores Jones; are seizing the school. They already have. Don't anyone look up to either of them. Everyone knows where each; came from. They still are Just plain old everyday people. Excuse me! Every day people who have just made a Big Mess. People have to see any of them coming. Because they are so tissue paper thin that everybody knows what they are up to. Whay is it that every one included have connections to Mr. Johnson? If you can't say anything good about Mrs. Cullen, then don't say anything at all. Good teachers that work hard needs assistance. So if she was giving a teacher aid to help some of the children who needed a little more help, thats fine goofy hater. That Mr. Johnson is something, he went to the board meeting wed. morning before the LSC meeting. He talked about the cuts at the School, and what the law states for intrem principal. If you think that was something, wait until you see what is added to the contract of the new principal, Mr. Johnson and the council selects. It's something about you. The new principal will be held responsible for holding people like you accountable for not doing anything. So ask your self, can you really work with these children. First of all, if everything was done the way they should have been. Mr. Johnson wouldn't have had to play top cop. What enviroment Mr. Johnson torn up, the one that had a teacher with only a type 9 certification as the school counselor for the pass 8 years. Was it because she was on the LSC. We have young teachers that went to school, got the wright certification (type 73), but can't find a job that will help our children. All because the Goofy that post before me said it was all about Deweys past enviroment. The same enviroment that allowed the Goofy that posted the blog before this one, to spend $200,000 on her self/LLT and her friend. While the school attempts to cut a teacher and three aids for those two individuals. Thanks to Mr. Johnson, the school bought A teacher, an Aid, A reading program with materials, staff development, and have 30,000 left to spend. You try so hard to clean up your racial statement before you post. I just want you to know that we know all about you. Please try some other strategy, the teachers, the parents and the community support Mr. Johnson, so trying to paint him as bad cop is not going to get it li-barbe. If your Lazy A?? would come to some of the meetings, you would see the support. Think about it, at the last meeting, the acting principal or the council didn't even vote on the principal proposal. They only voted on two proposals that Mr. Johnson presented, one of the two passed with all yes votes and one abstain vote. That one abstain vote was Mr. Johnson, his sister work at the school so he couldn't vote yes like every one else. Stop trying to give all the credict for Mr. Johnson hard work and training to someone other then Mr. Johnson. Just think a little bit Goofy, if the evil, sadistic Rosetta Burton was leading Mr. Johnson, don't you think they would have came after your LAZY A?? first. Goofy Rosetta hasn't been to any LSC trainings. There's know way possible for Mr. Johnson to be lead by someone who has know training at all. Everything Mr. Johnson talks about to the board president is you goofies braking rules that hurts teachers, parent, the community, and most important the children. How in the hell could someone with know training on the laws that Mr. Johnson is talking about lead Mr. Johnson. It seems like someone is leading your goofy A??. And if the council is ran the wright way all stakeholders would be involved in the growth of our school. It's people like you, some AIOs, and some principal that run thier council. That way you can cut hard working teachers, Aids, and clerks that are being paid out of state chapter 1 and NCLB fund. All you need is the chair to sign and someone is cut. And your favorite answer to the individuals thats being cut is, baby the board cut your position, BULL SHI???. Thank god for Mr. Johnson. Did it ever hit your goofy butt in the head why Mr. Johnson is coming at you all so hard. Let me explain some of it, you were in the meeting in the library in November, 2008 when Mr. Johnson stated Dr. Buckley called him over the summer to come sign a ammendment, because the BOARD IS CUTING Ms. Fields position. All of it was Bull Shi???. Then you try the same mess with his sister, I guess you really F-up this time. Mr. Johnson also fund out the budget/cut team was lazy people in position they didn't qualify to be in counselor, LLT and case manager. So Mr. Johnson promise this will never happen again at Dewey. I know a lot of schools that wouldn't mine having Mr. Johnson at their school working with their staff and council. Then a lot of unnecessary cuts wouldn't take place. LLT, did you go back to school to get the necessary certification to be a LLT (TYPE 10). I think Mr. Johnson talked about you to, a TYPE 3 & a Reading endorsement k-4 was not enough to be the LLT for 14 yrs. Every body wonder why the school was put on probation, and she said a wonderful enviroment. I guess it was wonderful for those that are angry at Mr. Johnson for make them work after 10+ yrs of do nothing. Good luck this was just the begining of his work to save Dewey.

She has been there forever; and has been very helpful to the school. Some of those other Aides don't do anything. They seem to be just there. Now; you only find preschool classrooms with Teacher Aides. School save money because their schools can't afford to have Teachers Aides. Isn't Ms Murph Mr. Johnson's sister. I see that after all of this mess he has caused he is making sure his SISTER has a job. Now isn't that favoritism to the family? Didn't the Board cut the positions; and not the school. So he probaly had to really shuffle things around to make sure sister keeps HER job. I know all of this stuff has caused a lot of sleepless nights. I hope all of you have placed that train on the right track. It has been one sad adventure to watch. You school enviroment has always been a good one. The atmosphere was just serene and free floating. Now; that atmosphere there will never be the same. It's really sad. Children love their teachers;too. It makes and effect for children to see new faces. This is why the city is complaining about how the city is having a hard time with teacher turnaround. Can any of you who seemingly love the Children so much; solve the reason why children come to school and won't try to do their best in society now. That too, would help ANY school. In other words what I am saying is; people have enough headaches dealing with the children alone. Adults should stop placing undue pressure and walk a mile in their shoes. Stop the fighting and be more compassionate. Their jobs are just that. A job. Remember this is why people work. It's hard to love any job when you are getting flucks from here ;there and everywhere. Just leave your people alone and let them do like people at other schools. Let them do the best they can to try and push the FUTURE out there into the future. Work along in a positive way with your school. Stop the fighting with your school; and people at your school. This will make you a better person. Enough of the trashing your school. You need to stop before you won't even have a school to trash. After all; your Council is just a vessel to do some of the dirty work. Downtown Rules! They are Really the ones who calls the shots.
So don't over work yourselves and find out that they are going to do what they want to do down there anyway. Believe you me; bright ideas are brewing up as we speak; and neither you nor I have a hand in it. Bottom line. We are Just equal. Nothing more.

I'm still sad that things were made so stressful for you and to you. Never will overlook the grounds of the demeaning things that were said and done to you. You bet; the stress made a great contribution to your death. Without a doubt. Your heart was a kind one; which made your school a pleasant atmosphere setting. Your students misses you too. It placed a lasting effect on their ending year. A Soldier was struck down. A Soldier you were; and your legacy will never be forgotten. You've gone ahead of the rest of us; but one day All of us will join you where you are. This I am certain of. No matter what the accomplishments we make; what we wear; drive; or own: NONE of it belongs to us. You are an example to show; how one minute you are here; the next minute each of us will not be. Time will pass. things will ALWAYS change. Your death did just that. Principal of Dewey Academy (2009-2013) you were. Another will carry on your legacy and be just as helpful and pleasant to the school. In a time of recession as now. Each of us; no matter what scenario of employment we are in; we are to be thankful that we are still blessed to even have a job. These are VERY hard times. So Dr. Buckley; rejoice. You don't have to worry about this scrambled fight anymore. Rest in Peace.
